Declaration of Interdependence
We hold these truths to be self-evident
To everyone except the President,
That each of us can claim descent
From the primeval fish who went
Crawling from the sea.
And to this day, each billionaire
Who walks upon the Earth
With every breath he takes must share
If nothing else, at least the air
With the likes of you and me
No matter our net worth.
Microscopic Liberty Bells,
Hidden deep inside our cells
(Also metaphoric)
Have the sound to break our spells
Liberate us from our hells
It’s something prehistoric.
It’s written in the double spiral
Of our DNA. It’s viral
Shared by all of God’s creation.
All who ride this lonely sphere
Rich or poor or straight or queer
Palestinian or Haitian.
It inclines us toward salvation.
We hold this truth to be self-evident
To overcome our discontent
We must work to seek transcendence
Of our so-called “independence.”

Poetic fireworks!
This is wonderful!
